Watch bison stampede as one slams into tourists rental car in Yellowstone National Park

A family visiting Yellowstone National Park had a scary moment when a herd of bison stampeded past their car, with one crashing into the vehicle as the stunned occupants were inside.

Video footage taken by the Delle Chiaie family shows the bison herd charging among a line of cars driving in the park’s Lamar Valley in Wyoming.

The father in the Delle Chiaie was driving with his wife and three children on Aug. 13 when the herd rushed on to the road, according to Caters News, the licensing company for the video.

As some of the bison appear to be charging straight for the family’s rental car, a man can be heard pleading, “Don’t, don’t, don’t, don’t, don’t, don’t, don’t.”

“Oh, look at the big one in front of us,” a woman in the car exclaims just before the bison slams into the vehicle.

“Oh man, there goes some money,” someone in the vehicle remarks, noting the family had not taken out insurance on the rental.

Yellowstone has the largest bison population on public land, according to the park’s website. The animals are allowed to mostly roam freely, and behave like their wild ancestors by clustering during breeding season to compete for mates.
