Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand drops bid for Democratic nomination in 2020

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., is dropping out of the 2020 presidential race, the candidate announced Wednesday. She is the first senator to drop out of the crowded Democratic primary.

Gillibrand, a fierce advocate for women’s issues, has been in the running for the Democratic nomination since January, but this week she failed to qualify for the September debate.

“It’s important to know when it’s not your time,” she said in a video posted to her Twitter account.
