Moving In / Moving Out

Here is a photo dump of pics from our move from our main house that is getting renovated to our rental cottage where we’ll stay for the next five months!

Packing Up

Now that we are settled into our rental house and the main house construction has started, I feel such a relief! While this is all very exciting, the whole process of moving out was not something I was looking forward to. But we survived!!

A part of me knows that the hardest part of all of this is going to be the month of August when we are in between homes and couch surfing, a decision we made to save (a lot of) money.

We’ll be going to my parents’ house for the first half of August and possibly living with Thomas’s parents, friends, or another shorter term rental until or renovation is complete. Of course I am hoping the house will be ready ahead of schedule, but we all know that will definitely not happen!

But our basement still has lots of space to receive all of the items we brought to the rental, and then at least it will all be under one roof waiting for us to move it all back upstairs!

Here’s a photo dump of pics from last week as we packed up one house and settled into another.

Wednesday: Moving Out

Last Wednesday was the first night we were planning to sleep at the cottage, so that mean all of our personal items made the move that day. I also took all of the bedding off and made sure everything was out of drawers and closets before the movers came the next morning.

“Don’t forget me!”

“Got you Gus!”

Moving Into The Cottage

I took lots and lots of loads over of loose items in laundry baskets and bags. I unpacked each load as I took it over so the house immediately felt settled (except for Thomas’s clothes which took forever to get put away! Ha!)

Having a truck is the best thing ever!

The hardest part of moving in was we did a couch swap. We put the cottage couch in the back bedroom and brought our bed cozy couch into the living room. Definitely the right call!

It’s been fun to have one-level living! Going into Birch’s room at nighttime is so much easier without stairs. Gus is loving no stairs too! And I love having a washer/dryer steps from my bedroom. This is all making me reconsider our permanent three-story house….!

How cute is this front porch!?

I think we need a little playhouse for back here….

Night One

Many thanks to Thomas’s parents who picked up Birch from school and had him for an overnight sleepover. Thomas and I worked until dinnertime, showered, and then went downtown for some refreshing margs and dinner at Passiflora.

We even snuck in a lunch date at Botanical the next day. Super helpful since we tried to move the least amount of food possible so the fridge was bare!

Thursday: Movers Day

On Thursday Thomas met the movers at 8:15am. Two Men and a Truck did a great job! The 2.5 hours they spent moving all of our super heavy and bulky furniture cost us $525 + tips. We’ll have to do it again when we move back in. But there was no way we could have done this ourselves. The only thing aside from our couch that isn’t in the basement is our dining table, which is in our neighbor’s’ basement.

I’m actually really pleased with how well everything fit into the basement. My biggest wish was that all closets and drawers were accessible and they are! And our family room is still playable too. The guest room is even sleepable if Thomas needs to sleep there in the final stretch of the reno in August.

All the beds and bedding!

Get To Work

Thomas wasted no time getting the house prepped for demo.

While I carried our last remaining kitchen supplies downstairs and Eileen did some mopping (haha), Thomas taped the fireplace off, porch flooring, and had his plumbers there within an hour taking down fixtures. He even had our range sold on moving day!

Emptiness

I have so many emotions about seeing this house empty. It’s not goodbye; it’s just see you later!!
