My Daily Morning Routine

Mornings are my favorite time of day. I like to “hit the ground running” – here’s what my daily routine looks like for the new year!

I thrive off of consistency and routine.

‘Tis the season to revisit routines that add structure and minimize stress.

I have many routines, depending on the topic or time of day, but my morning routine might just be one of my favorites. I love starting a fresh new day!

Some people like to have hot lemon water, meditate, and practice yoga; I’m all about making my morning hours as productive as can be by “hitting the ground running.”

Not literally – my early mornings seldom begin with an actual run, but I enjoy rising early to get a head start on the day.

I like to get a head start on the work snowball, then take a break mid-morning for a workout. Sometimes I’ll throw yoga and meditation in there too!

The Benefits of Having a Routine

Research has consistently shown that routines can play an important role in mental health, including helping to better manage stress and anxiety.

Having a regular routine can help you:

  • Lower stress levels
  • Form good daily habits
  • Take better care of your health
  • Feel more productive
  • Feel more focused

6:00 a.m.: Thomas delivers coffee to my nightstand. I know, I know – he is the best!!!

I sip coffee in bed – can’t live without my Yeti coffee travel mug to keep my coffee hot all morning.

6:15 a.m.: Get organized for the day via my favorite digital organization apps: Gmail, YNAB, TeuxDeux.

If you’ve read about my course, Digital Clutter, you’ll know that I talk a lot about the Power Hour.

I like to do my Power Hour tasks as soon as I wake up! I check in with my planner for the day, organize my thoughts for the work day ahead, and get back to Inbox Zero.

If you want to learn more about digital organizing methods, you can hear me talk about them in this free workshop!

6:45 a.m.: I use our Hypervolt massage tool on my foot for a few minutes before getting out of bed. I swear this has made a huge difference in being able to walk normally the day after soccer or plyo classes.

Time to get dressed!

6:50 a.m.: Common outfit for the day is my favorite ColorfulKoala leggings with the Conscious Crop – they are both great for walking and working comfortably at home. Add cozy hoodie jacket on top.

6:55 a.m.: Time for my morning skincare routine! I layer Beautycounter’s Daily Defense SPF 25 with my tinted moisturizer, and add little cream blush for my walk (sometimes drive…) to preschool.

7:00 a.m.: Check on Mazen + morning chores: put a load of laundry in (I looove the Dropps detergent), put away dishes by sink, and unload dishwasher.

7:30 a.m.: Place lunchboxes and backpacks by the door (Thomas usually makes the lunches!) + fill water bottles.

7:35 a.m.: Say “bye!” to Mazen – he’s off to 4th grade with Thomas.

7:45 a.m.: Now Birch is up and I get breakfast ready for him. His favorite is oatmeal with a side of fruit. “Eatmeal” we call it!

8:00 a.m.: Eat my breakfast! My current favorites in rotation: smoothies, bagels, yogurt bowls, and oatmeal – of course!

8:20 a.m.: It’s time to walk Birch to school (we drive if it’s below 30 degrees), so I grab my Goodr sunglasses and Allbirds

8:30 a.m.: Depart for preschool in Uppababy Cruz stroller. I love this walk so much!

8:45 a.m.: Walk home from school – I’m always listening to a podcast in my AirPods to pass the time.

What I’m listening to: Ramit’s I Will Teach You To Be Rich

9:00 a.m.: I usually finish up a podcast episode while I clean up the kitchen from breakfast: load dirty dishes, wipe counters, Dyson vacuum.

9:15 a.m.: Now it’s officially time to pick up where I left off with work until I break for a workout on our Peloton or to the gym around 10:30. I usually do smaller tasks before my workout and longer tasks after lunch from 12:30 to 3 when I get the boys.
