After having offered prayers to the God, henceforth we are going to explain the chapter pertaining to the explanation of ‘treatment of vomiting, heart diseases and thirst diseases’. Thus say (pledge) Atreya and other sages.
Principles of Langhana (Fasting) and Vamana (Emesis)
Generally vomiting disorder, arises from the upward movement of the dosas localized in the amasaya (stomach) hence, for them, fasting at the beginning stage, is ideal, except in that caused by vata. Next, for those who are strong, have great increase of dosas and who continue to vomit large quantities repeatedly, a vamana (emesis) should be administered.
Virechana: Purgation therapy
Next, purgation should be administered, using wine, fruit juice or milk (as adjuvants to the purgative drug) in that order, which are good for heart, this (purgation) will make the dosas accumulated at the upper parts, to move in downward direction. For those, who are dry and debilitated, herbs which mitigate the doshas should only be administered.
Virechana: Purgation therapy

Foods which are dry (non-fatty), liked, accustomed and easily digestible are ideal; so also fasting, drinking soups, meat juice (soup), liquid foods prepared from vegetables, buttermilk, curds processed with spices and salt. Leafy vegetables, confection, eatables, fruit juices, sour syrups, snacks, different kinds of dry fruits; daily bath, and massage, perfumes, sweet smell of fruits, flowers, foods and drinks, splashing of cold water on the face immediately after meals (are beneficial).
