Cottage cheese meets cookie dough in this cottage cheese overnight oats recipe. This edible cookie dough is not only high in protein but perfect for breakfast too! You’ll wonder how you ever started your day without this recipe!
My toddler is OBSESSED with these cottage cheese cookie dough balls I shared last month. So much so that she keeps asking for them for breakfast. I just couldn’t bring myself to get into that habit with her (though I suppose they actually do make a great breakfast) that I felt like I needed to come up with a more breakfast-friendly option.
Enter these cottage cheese cookie dough overnight oats. I know it seems completely strange to mix cottage cheese with oats but hear me out. Not only is cottage cheese a very mild flavor that lends itself perfectly to cookie dough, but it’s also super high in protein.
As someone who strives to get enough protein in everyday I love that I can make my oatmeal more filling simply by using this hack. Don’t believe me? I think it’s time you find out for yourself.
Why Make This Recipe?
- High in protein – one serving of this cottage cheese cookie dough overnight oats recipe includes 18 grams of protein! To put that into perspective that’s more protein than two large eggs.
- Minimal dishes – everything comes together in one container! Easy clean-up included.
- No cooking required – not only is this recipe low in dishes but it doesn’t require you to turn on any kitchen appliances.
Ingredients Needed
- Rolled oats – the base for these overnight oats. Regular rolled oats are ideal. Feel free to grab gluten-free if necessary.
- Chia seeds – you can also sub in ground flaxseed if that’s all you have. This helps to absorb the liquid and make your overnight oats nice and thick.
- Maple syrup – for sweetener. You can reduce this if you like your cookie dough overnight oats less sweet
- Vanilla almond milk – or another plant-based or non-dairy milk.
- Cottage cheese – cottage cheese is shockingly good in overnight oats. You can grab any kind you can find though my preference is for full fat with small curd.
- Vanilla extract – don’t skip this! This helps with the cookie dough flavor.
- Almond butter – this contributes to the cookie dough taste but also adds some nice fat to help balance out your meal.
- Chocolate chips – I like using the Enjoy Life mini chocolate chips.

I recommend using regular rolled oats for this recipe. I find that quick cook oats get too mushy. You could also try making this recipe using my overnight steel cut oats instructions.
