Bathroom Sink Ideas {+ Our Custom Vanity}

There are endless ways to design a bathroom. The bathroom sink ideas we went through led us to one beautiful custom vanity. Here’s the sink design and vanity in our primary bath! New bathroom photos by Cramer Photo.

Sinks and their enclosing vanities are a focal point in any bathroom. They really set the vibe! A functional sink is great, but the right sink style can elevate the vibe and design of your bathroom. We looked a lots of different sinks on Pinterest to figure out the exact style we wanted for our primary bathroom renovation.

We debated between separate vanities or one long double vanity. Different sink materials and styles (undermount or on top of the counter). How many faucet holes. There are so many things to consider!

Bathroom Sink Ideas

Double Vanity

Having shared a single pedestal sink for the past 4+ months, I cannot wait to have two sinks and counter space again! Our new vanity is very long not because we really needs tons of counter space, but because maximizing storage space underneath was a huge priority for me.

Wall Mounted Sink

A wall mounted sink can look really cool and is a great option if you want a more modern, minimalist feel. They are great for saving space and since they’re up off the ground, you can store things underneath, like a basket of towels or a step stool for kids. Wall mounts are great to make your bathroom feel larger.

Pedestal Sink

I actually really don’t care for the function of a pedestal sink and think they are best for powder baths where you are usually just washing your hands. Putting on makeup with one is always challenge due to lack of counter space. However, they do look very nice and are great if you are short on space and still want a cool look. You can get creative with a shelf hung just above or to one side for housing toiletries.

Console Sink

We had this modern sink type in the hall bath at the rental house. Think of a sink floating on metal legs. I think it’s a great compromise between a large vanity and an airier pedestal. Usually the water supply is visible, but if you’re going for a more industrial feel, then that is part of the look!

How To Choose A Bathroom Sink

Undermount Sink

An undermount sink is attached to the counter from the bottom, so that the rim is hidden. In my opinion, an undermount sink is the perfect sink for a bathroom sink and kitchen sink! What I love about them is how easy it is to swipe your hand across the counter and sweep anything into the basin.

Vessel Sink

I thought vessel sinks were the sink type that are one long trough, but actually they’re the kind we had in our former bath: a sink sitting up on the counter like a bowl. I’ve seen some really cool ones from glass to river rock bottoms to stainless steel bowls. I actually love the look of them, but since I am only 5’2″, it was always a little tricky for me to reach. They are ideal for tall people OR if you have a shorter vanity.

Drop In Sink

A drop in sink has a visible lip that is “dropped in” over the countertop. A lot of older homes have drop in sinks because they are easier to install and less expensive. There may be times when you’d want to put in a new drop in sink, such as when the countertop material requires one, or if you’d DIYing the sink. Some say they are easier to caulk and clean! I just don’t think they look quite as sleek and you do need a REALLY good caulk job because the edges will be visible and might get crusty fast. The good news is it’s really easy to access and re-caulk.

Our Custom Vanity

We used Conway Custom Woodwork for our kitchen, mudroom, and bathroom cabinetry. Mike Conway is a friend of ours, and Thomas has been working with him for years.
