The Georges
The Georges is a boutique inn in Lexington, Virginia, about an hour’s drive from Charlottesville. It’s the perfect spot for a romantic night away!
The team invited us for a one-night stay in exchange for sharing it with you all. We had a lovely time – the hospitality was exceptional.
The Georges, which is owned by native Virginians, opened in 2016 and is spread out between several different historic buildings on Main Street in Lexington.
There are 33 rooms and suites spread among the historic buildings that are each uniquely designed with modern amenities to reflect the duality of the destination.
There are two restaurants – Haywood’s Piano Bar and Grill, the inn’s signature restaurant across the street, and TAPS, the lobby bar and lounge serving small plates and drinks. TAPS is also where breakfast is served.
Why you should visit Lexington, Virginia
Located in the heart of the beautiful Shenandoah Valley, Lexington is known for its history and the two colleges there: Washington and Lee and Virginia Military Institute (VMI).
The drive down was easy and beautiful in the fall with mountain views in all directions.
We learned from our host at Haywoods that the reason you can see the foundation on so many buildings is that years ago when horses hauled cargo up the street from the river they decided to lower the incline and dug out the street.
So the first floors of many of the buildings used to be underground.
The Livery
We stayed in the newest building in The Georges collection: The Livery.
Yes, it used to be an actual livery!
The building was just renovated and opened a few weeks ago. I loved all of the fall decor and gorgeous wallpaper.

The rooms are luxurious, each with a different design and wallpaper.
The rooms featured dimmable lights, a sound machine (all hotels need these!), and a very cozy bed.
OMG The Bathroom!
The bathroom was a show stopper! It had a towel warmer, heated floors, a soaking tub, light-up mirrors, and walk-in shower, water closet, and even a tiled shower ceiling.
As a general contractor, Thomas was impressed. We were taking notes for our new master bath!

We changed for dinner and headed back out for a short stroll before dinner.

Drinks at TAPS
Before dinner we grabbed some cocktails at TAPS.
I had a Run The Block (Mezcal, Reposado Tequila, Honey, Lime, Muddled Jalapeño, Tajin Rim) and Thomas had the Kappa Hill (Tequila, Lime, Jalapeño, Cilantro, Mango, Ginger Beer Float.)
Dinner at Haywood’s Piano Bar and Grill
At 6:30 we crossed the street for dinner at Haywood’s Piano Bar and Grill.
We were greeted by General Manager John Gomes and enjoyed a delicious pre-fixe menu. We loved hearing about the history of Lexington during our dinner.
Courses
We started with a salad or soup course. I had a cauliflower soup with crab meat and Thomas had a caesar.
Mushroom Risotto
Normally one would choose between lobster mac and cheese and risotto, but Chef was so excited for us to taste everything he brought it all out!!
Entrees
We tried both the salmon in a rich bourbon balsamic glaze
And the filet mignon! We were totally stuffed and brought our leftovers home after savoring some bites.

Soaked
I rolled myself home and couldn’t resist taking a bubble bath in the soaker tub!
Coffee Gets An A+
The lobby coffee was so good – I had to have a second cup!
Breakfast
Breakfast is included in your stay, and you get to select choices and a time slot the night before.
We had breakfast appetizers of pumpkin bread and tiny smoothies!
And eggs, bacon, fruit, and a toasted English muffin.
College Stroll
After breakfast, we took a stroll around the campuses of W&L and VMI.
I felt like I was back in college walking among all the students : )
We look like college students minus the backpacks, right!? Erase a wrinkle or two…
