Broccoli is an easy option roasted or sautéed for a simple side dish (my favorite way to enjoy it is roasted with olive oil and salt).

But broccoli can also be the star of the meal! It’s delish in pasta, rice bakes, stir fries, soups, salads, quiches, and more.

In the off-season, frozen broccoli is often the better (and more affordable) choice because vegetables are usually frozen immediately after picking which helps to preserve the nutritional content.

Broccoli is in season from the fall through the spring, making it a great option for a fresh vegetable in the winter months!

How do you cook broccoli so it doesn’t lose its nutrients?

As a general rule of thumb, the lower the temperature, the less time, and the smaller the amount of water… the better! Boiling broccoli in a large volume of water will cause it to lose more of its nutrients than quickly steaming broccoli in a little bit of water (or eating it raw).

What pairs well with broccoli?

But really… what doesn’t pair well with broccoli? I love broccoli in pasta dishes, as a side dish for salmon or grilled chicken, in a grain and bean salad, or with eggs in a strata or quiche! Sky is truly the limit with this versatile vegetable.
